Any visa designated by a letter in front of a number (F-1, J-1, and B-2) is a non-immigrant Visa. When you leave United States and want to return, meanwhile, your Visa has expired, and then you need to renew your Visa in American Embassy.

Things needed for renewing Visa返签材料准备

1.Valid I-20
请在回国之前准备好!

In case you need more years to finish your degree, make sure your I-20 is valid and accurate.
Your I-20 has an expiration date, which can be found in item 5 on page 1.

If your I-20 is going to expire before you finish your program, you will need to request an extension via

iStart http://istart.iu.edu/ at least 30 days before the expiration date.

In addition, you must request a new I-20 from OIS if you will change your degree level, major, source of funding, or number of F-2 dependents.

You may request a new I-20 for a change in degree program through iStart. Other requests must be made in person at International Office.

2.Valid Passport

Keep your passport valid at all times!
If your passport will expire soon, you need to contact your Embassy to inquire about the procedure for extension

3.Official Transcript
请在回国之前准备好！

Before you leave America, we suggest you obtain an official transcript to prove that you are currently a student in IU,
and have not finished your study. To request a transcript, there are four ways: In person; by mail; By Fax; Online.

4.Certificates (Optional)

If you received any certificates from IU, it can serve as a good proof that you legally study in IU.
But it is not a necessary, just a supplementary.

5.Income Statement

We suggest you bring income statements or financial aid etc which can prove that you have enough money to afford the rest time of study and live in USA.
